Less than two years after first taking up triathlon, Emma Sowden is tackling her first Ironman event, incorporating Bexters Soda Crystals into her gruelling training programme.
A keen runner, having completed several marathons, she was looking for a new challenge and was prompted to have a go at triathlon at the start of last year. By the summer, she was confident enough to take part in two half Ironman events – a total distance of 70.3 miles – a real tribute to her determination and motivation.
Both these qualities are much in evidence as she combines training with her day job as partner in an estate agency, Sowden Wallis in Stamford, where she starts most mornings with a swim or yoga class. She runs or cycles after work with long distance sessions reserved for weekends… her schedule will be adapted as the big day gets closer. Emma is a member of Stamford Striders.
Bexters is treatment of choice for many international athletes when it comes to post-training recovery or reducing swelling after injury. The partnership with Ironman began in Australia where the crystals originate and we will be tracking Emma’s progress as part of a wider project to build up an archive of user feedback.
Known as the most challenging endurance event in the world, Ironman starts with a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and 25.2 mile run. It is the ultimate test for any triathlete and Emma will be joining some of the country’s most successful competitors for the UK event in Bolton in July.
Having tried various remedies to ease her aching muscles Emma was impressed by the range of sports professionals who believe in the benefits of these natural, environmentally-friendly crystals. Emma reported how relaxed she felt after bathing in them for the first time following a 20-mile run, with none of the fatigue that she usually experiences after a lengthy training session. She told us: “If I am not working I am training, with a full schedule of races leading up to the main event. Post-training recovery has been an issue and it seems as if Bexters could be the answer.”
Keep up to date with Emma’s progress on our blog.
