Case study: Caroline Salmon
Occupation: Nurse
The Challenge
Long-term debilitating pain and swelling due to a torn meniscus (cartilage) in her right knee. After conservative treatment including rest, ice and steroid injection had made no difference, she underwent surgery to repair the damage. While the operation brought some relief, pain and swelling returned after she went back to work, and neither an osteopath nor podiatrist (to assess her gait) could help in any discernible way.
The Solution
Some months later a knee replacement operation was carried out (including a new kneecap) but post-operative recovery was slow as severe pain and extreme swelling affected her ability to follow a strict rehabilitation regime of bending/stretching. Caroline was advised to try Bexters Soda Crystals by her mother, who had previously enjoyed good results from this simple wrap treatment.
The Outcome
Bexters crystals work by drawing out excess fluid and within three hours of first application the swelling started to reduce. Applying the crystals on alternate days, within one week she was able to exercise more easily due to reduction in swelling that made bending less painful, allowing Caroline to sleep better and straighten her leg.
Caroline says: ‘Seeing the immediate effect of the crystal wrap was like magic – we could see the difference almost hour by hour. After just three weekly sessions with the physio at the hospital ‘Knee Club’ I had the slimmest knee of all the patients (all had the same operation at around the same time) and the greatest bend… 120 degrees. Without the crystals I am certain I would not have progressed so quickly.’
