How do Bexters Soda Crystals actually work?

The formulation combines naturally ocurring products mined in Australia, including sodium carbonate, which has hygroscopic properties. This describes an ability to absorb moisture, giving Bexters Soda Crystals their unique ability to draw-out fluid and so reduce swelling.

Can Bowtech Ease be used to reduce bruising in the same way as applying arnica gel or cream?

Arnica is known as an anti-inflammatory and is often the ‘go to’ treatment for bruising, as it stimulates the activity of white blood cells that disperse congested blood. Bowtech Ease has an equally powerful anti-inflammatory action and some of our therapists have reported good results when using it for bruising. Read more on Helen’s blog.

Are Bexters Soda Crystals different to Epsom salts?

The short answer is yes! Bexters Soda Crystals are made from natural sodium carbonate and unlike Epsom salts, can assist with swelling by drawing out excess fluid from damaged or painful joints. The crystals can also be used with our purpose-designed applicator wraps to provide extended and targeted relief from inflammation.

What is the difference between Bowtech Ease and Iodex which was recommended by Tom Bowen?

While Tom Bowen did indeed recommend Iodex for painful bunions, in those days it was the only option readily available and many of the side effects were not well recognised.
These include skin irritation, dryness, fever, tremors, joint pain and in extreme cases disease of the lymph nodes. The other active ingredient is Wintergreen essential oil which in concentrated form can also inflame the skin.
More importantly, due to the contra-indications of iodine (external use) for people suffering thyroid problems, as well as the other possible side-effects, we no longer recommend its use.
Bowtech Ease is a safer and highly effective natural option which unlike this old-fashioned remedy has a pleasing aroma and does not stain the skin. It has impeccable credentials, developed by Ayurvedic aromatherapist Farida Irani who is also a Bowen Technique instructor (Bowtech) and realised the need for an alternative. Her unique blend of essential oils combines to soothe and lessen inflammation, disinfect the skin and help break down calcification in the joint.
Originally developed and recommended for bunions, it was subsequently found to be equally effective on other painful and arthritic joints around the body. Since 2015 Bowtech Ease has been recognised with three UK awards.

What is the difference between Bexters Soda Crystals and Bexters Bath Crystals

The original, soda crystals can be used in two ways: in a relaxing bath to ease aching muscles or in association with our Bowen Supplies purpose-designed applicator wrap for localised relief. They are highly effective in reducing swelling and prized by keep fit fans, athletes and sports professionals for post-training recovery. The bath crystals have been re-formulated with the addition of cooling peppermint and extra magnesium sulphate (better known as Epsom salts) to create a rejuvenating muscle soak to relieve all-over aches and pains. This version can be enjoyed by the whole family –  not suitable for use with applicator wrap.

Can I use Bowtech Ease if I am pregnant?

Bowtech Ease is an ayurvedic aromatherapy blend, a formulation of essential oils with a carrier oil which is safe for use during pregnancy, along with most guidelines recommended after the first trimester.

I have heard that the Bowtech Ease is good for headaches and sinusitis, how is it used?

The person would need to carry out a skin test first in-case of sensitivity. Just a little is applied on the forehead or where the head aches, similarly on the cheek bones for sinusitis. As it releases peppermint aromas, it is advisable to close the eyes.

Which is the best way to test the Bowtech Ease for any skin allergies?

The 24 hour test is used by many therapists. Simply place a drop onto the skin behind the ear and wait until the same time the next day. If there is no itching or redness, the product is safe to use.

What do I do when the crystals in the jars go hard as I do store them in a cool and dry area?

Yes, this can often happen, the crystals are rather like sugar granules and can harden. The best suggestion is to shake them or gently tap two jars together, this will loosen them and then they will be easier to measure out.
