The base carrier oil comes from olives grown on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, burial place of King Charles’ grandmother, Princess Alice of Greece. This makes it vegan friendly, a modern change from the centuries-old formulation that once used oil from civet cats or musk deer.
The fragrance comes from mixing the olive oil with sesame, rose, jasmine, cinnamon, neroli, benzoin, amber and orange blossom.
The oils were mixed and blessed in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre by the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III and the Anglican archbishop Dr Hosam Naoum. From ancient kingdoms to the present day, monarchs in many countries and from many faiths have been anointed with oil from this sacred place. With Charles’ personal connection (he last visited the Mount of Olives in 2020) the ceremony will be even more significant.
As complementary therapists we know the power of essential oils and wish for this consecrated oil to bring health, harmony and love to the newly crowned King Charles, Queen Camilla and family. I certainly feel privileged to be witness to this historic event.
