Case Study: Camilla Seckin
Occupation: Primary school class assistant / Lead London Representative, Scoliosis Association UK
The Challenge
Reduced mobility, stiffness and weakness in lower back, resulting from idiopathic adolescent scoliosis (72-degree curve). Having been born with a straight spine it seemed that curvature started at puberty. Successful fusion surgery along a length of spine between vertebrae T3 and L2. At the same time underwent a procedure (costoplasty) to break and re-align rib cage. This was essential as ribs had been forced out of shape due to twisted spine. Recovery took around 18 months.
The Solution
To help manage day to day discomfort and reduce stiffness, Helen recommended use of Bexters Soda Crystals with applicator back wrap (see picture) and optional crystal baths as required.
The Outcome
Wearing the wrap with crystals daily, for five days, Camilla reported that her back felt more relaxed with less tightness in the lumbar region. She also enjoyed the sensation of pressure around the back when wearing the applicator wrap.
Camilla says: ‘I am very open to different treatments and was drawn to Helen when I met her at The Back Pain Show, partly as I am training as a massage therapist which means improving my own mobility is a priority. She has warmth and empathy and I was encouraged to try the crystals as a natural and non-invasive option. I have daily discomfort and sometimes a lot of pain and found the crystals made a noticeable difference.’
