  • Bexters in action… Week 7 Posted June 1, 2017

    Off

TRIATHLETE Emma Sowden will be one of 8,000 cyclists taking part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire this weekend (June 4th) as she rides full pelt in this race on closed roads.

This is a major event in the competitive cycling calendar, a demanding road race in which Emma will be testing her speed and stamina against top riders from around the country. She continues to wrap Bexters crystals around her knees to reduce swelling after a long ride, and enjoys a soak in Bexters crystals when she gets home!

By contrast, last Sunday (May 28th) she adopted a steadier pace in a bike ride through the Leicestershire countryside where she came 2nd in her age category and fifth overall female.

As always, she was riding her trusty Liv triathlon bike, a specific female brand designed for women who are not so tall! Lightweight and aerodynamic it has tri handlebars which allows the rider to cycle in a more aerodynamic position.

Who would have thought we would see the word 'musculoskeletal' in a newspaper article about the perils of wearing high heels!

While the ubiquitous trainer trend that started during Covid is still with us, for many women wearing stilettoes is still the norm.

The advice now coming through loud and clear from sports scientists in China recommends a heel no higher than three inches to avoid taking a tumble and reducing the risk of joint injury, back pain and even foot deformity including #bunions.

As a Bowen therapist and reflexologist Helen sees many clients with these kind of problems... a reminder to them to #loveyourfeet

As you know, we love a bath rather than a shower and this quote we spotted recently sums it up perfectly: 'A bath is liquid Valium for stress relief'
Helen recommends adding a handful of #bextersbath crystals for a truly rejuvenating soak... rubber duck optional!

The month of May is a timely reminder that walking is good for our health #NationalWalkingMonth As a Bowen therapist Helen encourages her clients to walk more after a treatment (as advised by founder Tom Bowen) to integrate the 'shifts' that take place within the body during a treatment.

But she also advocates the wider health benefits of walking in her article Gait Ways https://helenperkins.com/news/walking-for-health/ whuch first appeared in ARCHIVE magazine.

"Nor should the importance of good footcare be overlooked, to reduce the risk of hard skin and fungal infection which can affect the way we walk and run," she told us.

Start with the basics, a foot soak with #bexterscrystals and be sure to dry between the toes! Cut or clip the nails straight across, file rough edges and massage with good quality lotion containing essential oils. #loveyourfeet
