‘Balance’ has become a new buzz word, used by many of us when we are not feeling very well or on top of the world. It is also used as jargon or a saying among those in the work place who get stressed when their work/life balance is not going so well.
When clients come to see me with a painful shoulder or lower back pain for example, I often hear them say they do not feel in balance. I always listen because in addition to the client sharing their emotional feelings – these are vital clues as to how the body is coping.
I often think we grow our body shape depending upon what has happened to us, from our jobs to caring for family or ourselves. I know that after using the basic relaxation moves in the Bowen technique, equilibrium is often restored – working on muscles and fascia can realign and remind the body of where its balance lies. It may only be temporary or longer lasting. Sometimes the change is permanent.
