AS UK Ironman gets closer (July 16th) Emma has adapted her training to build up speed and stamina through longer distances. In line with this strategy a last-minute entry saw her complete the Shakespeare Marathon in beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon.
This event replaced her provisional plan to tackle a short triathlon in St Neots… three bursts of swimming, cycling and running. “I enjoy the shorter distances but I need a few more long runs, to get used to running on tired legs which is a feature of Ironman,” she said.
Not only are these more motivating they also remove the need to carry a backpack with essentials such as water and first aid kit as these are provided along the route.
The Stratford event was good preparation for Emma’s first triathlon of the year, an Olympic distance comprising a 1.5k swim in open water, followed by a 38k cycle and 10k run… check out our blog from Peterborough Rowing Club next week.
Bexters Soda Crystals have become an integral part of training, especially as Emma now reports swelling around the inner and outer knee area. As well as bathing in the crystals once or twice a week she uses the applicator wrap alternately on knees and ankles. “I find them so effective I wouldn’t dream of training without them,” she said.
